About The Position

This posting is for High School Students in a CTE program, specifically for locations across the West Region. The Medical Assistant, under the supervision of a designated supervisor and assigned physician, performs duties related to direct patient care and clinical direction in accordance with organizational standards. Key responsibilities include ensuring the completeness of ordered procedures and treatments, maintaining smooth patient flow, performing general lab work, and instructing patients on procedures and needs. The role also involves ensuring medical orders and referrals are processed accurately and timely, performing registration and scheduling, maintaining EMR files, and handling general front office functions. Computerized physician order entry may be performed if directed by the assigned physician. The Medical Assistant is also expected to precept current MA team members or MA Externs as requested by leadership.

Requirements

  • AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Current certification in medical assisting required from America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Center for competency Testing (NCMA), and/or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC)
  • Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA required
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding required
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures
  • Knowledge of insurance plans and third-party payers
  • Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current Clinical policy, Point of Care and Skills Competency checklists
  • Requires basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program preferred
  • TB validated (to administer or read) or validation obtained within 6 months of hire preferred
  • Knowledge of Business Unit Quality Programs, Meaningful Use and Standard Work Programs and concepts within 6 months of hire
