About The Position

The Medical Assistant supports the clinical team by performing a variety of patient care, administrative, and clinical tasks in a physician practice setting. This role assists physicians and nurse practitioners in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care while ensuring compliance with Nuvia Medical standards, AHCA Medicaid requirements, and HEDIS quality initiatives. The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in patient flow, clinical documentation, and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for patients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program required.
  • Current Medical Assistant certification required (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent).
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • At least 1 year of clinical experience in a physician office or outpatient setting preferred.
  • Experience with Medicaid patient populations strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Strong clinical skills including taking vitals, administering injections, and assisting with procedures.
  • Excellent communication and patient service skills.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control practices.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examinations, including taking vital signs, updating medical histories, and documenting in the EHR.
  • Assist providers during examinations and procedures.
  • Administer medications and immunizations as directed by providers, within scope of practice.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and perform waived lab tests.
  • Greet and room patients, ensuring a positive and efficient patient experience.
  • Educate patients on medications, procedures, and follow-up instructions as directed by providers.
  • Assist with scheduling, referrals, and coordination of care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in patient medical records.
  • Support front office staff with phone calls, appointment scheduling, and insurance verifications as needed.
  • Manage inventory of medical supplies and ensure exam rooms are fully stocked.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and Florida AHCA Medicaid regulations.
  • Follow infection control protocols and safety standards.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and assist in closing care gaps to improve HEDIS performance measures.
