The Medical Assistant performs routine clinical and administrative duties in support of an assigned area or office.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, or combination of education and experience required for the job.
  • Less than 1 year of experience.
  • BCLS upon completion of hospital orientation.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Frequent use of electronic mail, word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, graphics, etc.
  • Ability to communicate simple messages orally, write brief messages, keep simple records, and explain and offer guidance on routine procedures.
  • Ability to solve routine, somewhat repetitive problems by following clear directions and procedures.
  • Decisions generally affect own job or assigned functional area.
  • Results are defined and existing practices are used as guidelines for how to complete work activities; works closely with supervisors/manager who provides broad guidance and overall direction.
  • Ability to prioritize assigned and routine tasks and handle them appropriately.
  • Exhibit a basic understanding of healthcare regulatory and compliance (e.g., HIPAA).
  • Skilled in the application of policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Business Office Standards and Recommended Practice.

  • Medical Assistant certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists with performing patient assessments and treatments under the supervision of physicians or nurses.
  • Performs basic diagnostic procedures and specimen collection.
  • Monitors and communicates changes in patient condition.
  • Documents patient care given.
  • Maintains equipment and medical supplies, including reordering, stocking, cleaning, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintains examination areas.
  • Performs administrative or clerical duties as assigned, including filing, reception, scheduling, data entry, and patient registration.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
