About The Position

This position is responsible for independently performing advanced Medical Assistant duties which may include advanced procedures specific to department, coordination of the work for other Medical Assistants, or performing patient or population based care navigation. The Medical Assistant provides advanced clinical and administrative support in an outpatient setting. This role includes but not limited to rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, documenting in the electronic medical record, assisting with procedures, supporting providers, and promoting efficient patient flow while delivering patient-centered care.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program (Required)
  • High School Equivalent / GED (Required)
  • 3+ years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant (Required)
  • Able to communicate effectively with people from varied socioeconomic backgrounds. (Required proficiency)
  • Able to organize changing work assignments. (Required proficiency)
  • Advanced patient care skills (Required proficiency)
  • Patient focused (Required proficiency)
  • Positive attitude and willing to learn (Required proficiency)
  • Orient other Clinical Support staff (Required proficiency)
  • Strong proficiency in EMR (Electronic Medical record) and/or Scheduling systems (Required proficiency)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) (Required Upon Hire)

Nice To Haves

  • Medical terminology. (Preferred proficiency)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) (Preferred within 90 Days)

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates unit operations by managing patient flow.
  • Completely independent with all front desk duties specific to department, including scheduling patients, collecting and verifying patient payor information and other patient documentation.
  • Assists manager with developing and facilitating process improvement initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
