About The Position

The Medical Assistant at LV Nellis Family Medicine Clinic is a full-time, non-exempt, non-union position responsible for escorting patients, recording vital signs and medication lists, monitoring patient flow, assisting physicians with procedures, performing EKGs, preparing patient charts, scheduling diagnostic tests, and performing various office and clerical duties. The role emphasizes maintaining patient privacy, safety, confidentiality, and a safe environment in compliance with infection control policies and safety regulations. The position also involves implementing physician orders, providing coverage for co-workers, and recording patient information in the EHR according to Joint Commission standards. Additionally, the Medical Assistant will obtain blood samples via venipuncture or capillary methods, process specimens, and perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent
  • Graduate from an accredited school of Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma program.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
  • Certification - Job Relevant Current Medical Laboratory Personnel License – NV. If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire, and maintained by renewal before expiration date.
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only).

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience
  • Experience in acute care setting
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Familiarity with word processing, GECB, COR, Cerner, ProSolv, and scheduling software is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to exam rooms.
  • Obtain and appropriately record patient vital signs/medication list.
  • Monitor patient flow.
  • Assist physicians with minor clinical procedures.
  • Perform EKGs.
  • Prepare patient chart with pertinent medical information.
  • Schedule diagnostic tests ordered by the physician as needed.
  • Perform various office and clerical duties.
  • Ensure patient's right to privacy, safety, and confidentiality is maintained.
  • Maintain a safe environment in accordance with standards, policies, and safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control policies.
  • Determine patient care needs and direct patients accordingly.
  • Ensure patient charts are prepared prior to appointment including x-rays and pertinent lab work, make arrangements to obtain any special equipment needed.
  • Set up exam rooms, assist physician with exams as needed, monitor patient flow.
  • Prepare patients for examinations.
  • Ensure health care delivery areas are fully stocked, organized, cleaned, and disinfected.
  • Maintain files and records, oversee equipment and office supply inventory.
  • Photocopy, collate, fax, mail.
  • Read and prioritize incoming mail.
  • Handle or route mail as appropriate.
  • Ensure that physician orders for medications and treatments are implemented by the appropriate staff.
  • Provide coverage/relief for co-workers.
  • Communicate directly with co-workers the status of all patients when providing coverage.
  • Assist the physician with exams and procedures.
  • Record patient information in chart//EHR according to Joint Commission standards.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Obtain blood sample specimens by venipuncture or capillary methods in response to requests for testing by clinicians, with appropriate consideration for the age of the patient.
  • Receive and screen specimens with regard to acceptability as defined by established guidelines.
  • Process, distribute or package all specimens received.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
