About The Position

The Medical Assistant is responsible for performing duties in support of nurses and physicians to provide quality medical care in a busy Outpatient Cardiology Office. The role requires performing all job functions in a courteous and professional manner consistent with the mission and core values of St Peter’s Health Partners Medical Associates. This position is located at 103 Sitterly Road, Clifton Park, NY.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalency
  • At least 10 months’ work and/or clinical training experience in the healthcare field
  • Proficient in obtaining manual vital signs
  • Experience using an electronic health record system
  • Commitment to confidentiality and respect
  • Ability to obtain and record patient data including prior health history, family history, allergies, current medications, current complaints, and health screening questionnaires
  • Knowledge of basic anatomy and medical terminology
  • Experience assisting physicians, nurses, or other healthcare providers in performing clinical tasks and procedures
  • Ability to provide patients with information related to their health and wellness.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant Training Program
  • Holds National Medical Assistant Certification: CMA, CCMA, RMA

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to exam rooms, take vital signs, and document health information into the electronic medical record.
  • Respond to patient concerns appropriately.
  • Complete referrals and obtain pre-authorizations for diagnostic testing.
  • Follow proper protocol for collection and delivery of specimens.
  • Participate in all required meetings and practice huddles.
  • Complete incoming patient forms and ensure they are scanned into the electronic medical record.
  • Use Universal Precautions with all encounters and follow procedures for handling exposure to blood or body fluids.
  • Document all exposure incidents per policy.
  • Notify physician regarding patients in need of intervention.
  • Ensure patient exam rooms are stocked and cleaned.
  • Follow office protocol for ordering and stocking supplies.
  • Perform office testing with appropriate training and within scope of practice.
  • Handle medical waste appropriately.
  • Provide educational materials and electronic copies of medical records to patients.
  • Perform front-end functions including scheduling, registration, check-in, check-out, charge entry/claims, and end-of-day processes.
  • Perform general duties such as document processing, scanning, and inbox monitoring.
  • Comply with the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) care delivery model.
  • Perform all mandatory training.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  • Work cooperatively with team members to ensure quality patient care.
  • Communicate respectfully and effectively with providers, staff, and colleagues.
  • Adhere to employment guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct in performance of all job duties.
  • Obtain and maintain medical assistant certification.
  • Cross-cover other areas as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
