About The Position

This is a full-time opportunity for a Medical Assistant at the CHC of New London. The role involves providing clinical and technical support for primary care providers, utilizing electronic tools for efficient workflow, and monitoring equipment according to OSHA and CLIA standards. The Medical Assistant will liaise with patients, families, specialists, and the healthcare team to ensure continuity and coordination of care in a patient-centered medical home. Responsibilities include pre-visit preparation, managing telehealth sessions, supporting clinical teams with administrative tasks, preparing patients for visits, documenting vital signs and screening tests, performing CLIA waived tests, EKGs, and hearing/vision tests, prioritizing work, maintaining a clean and safe environment, adhering to infection control standards, and exhibiting excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant course from an accredited/recognized school
  • Medical Assistant board certification (AAMA, NHA)/registration (AMT) or achieved within 90 days of hire.
  • EKG use, appointment scheduling, word processing and computer skills, and familiarity with medical testing procedures.
  • Sound organizational skills and accuracy at all levels of job.
  • Prior demonstrated excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Must be team focused and demonstrate leadership qualities.
  • Current American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer and AED (CPR/FPR/AED) certification, or current American Heart Association BLS/AED for Healthcare Providers certification.
  • Communicates clinical/client information to providers accurately.
  • Accurately takes messages and communicates on the telephone.
  • Communicates effectively with other medical assistants, collaborates with medical provider and nursing staff.
  • Access to clients’ charts and health care information.
  • Maintains client confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Performs pre-visit preparation for all primary care patients scheduled to be seen, applying evidence-based guidelines.
  • Collaborates with the primary care nurse and provider to "e-huddle" using the Planned Care Dashboard for complete primary care visits.
  • Prepares patients for telehealth visits, including guiding them on video technology use.
  • Manages virtual telehealth sessions for multiple providers using Zoom, including setup, admitting patients, and pre-visit preparation.
  • Supports clinical teams in collecting paperwork, requesting records, scheduling follow-up visits, and other administrative tasks.
  • Collaborates with providers and staff to facilitate appropriate telehealth patient flow.
  • Prepares patients for provider visits based on the nature of the visit (sick, PE, WCC, etc.).
  • Accurately documents chief complaint and results from evidence-based screening tests.
  • Accurately performs and documents patient vital signs.
  • Independently and accurately performs appropriate CLIA waived tests, EKG, hearing & vision tests.
  • Prioritizes work responsibilities to decrease waiting time and collaborates with staff to facilitate patient flow.
  • Effectively works as a member of the health care team, assisting other members as needed.
  • Appropriately schedules tests and referrals for specialty care in accordance with Provider orders in a timely manner.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, safe working environment.
  • Oversees maintenance of supplies and documents in medical logs as directed.
  • Sets up and stocks exam rooms and cleans rooms at the end of each day worked.
  • Adheres to all infection control standards, follows Universal Precautions and safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintains yearly CPR certification.
  • Exhibits excellent customer service skills with a focus on quality of care and teamwork.
  • Complies with Agency mandated in-service training workshops.
