About The Position

Located at 1 Maguire Road, Lexington, MA 024, The Lurie Center for Autism, we believe that people with autism and developmental disabilities deserve to be viewed as individuals. Our dedicated care teams provide comprehensive services to help people with autism reach their full potential, regardless of economic, social, or ethnic background. We provide compassionate care for patients and support for their families across the lifespan. We are seeking a full-time, 40-hour experienced Medical Assistant to support the practice onsite, Monday through Friday 7:45am-4:15pm or 8:00-4:30pm. The medical assistant will work 1:1 with our Primary Care provider in our single provider practice, seeing approximately 8 patients a day. The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Basic Life Support [BLS Certification]
  • Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years required
  • At least 3 years of Medical Assistant experience, with a passion for providing compassionate, patient-centered care.
  • The ideal candidate will feel comfortable working with patients with disabilities, building meaningful connections, and adapting their approach to meet each patient’s individual needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred
  • Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
  • Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
  • Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
  • Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
  • Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
  • Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
