The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting physician, PA or NP with clerical duties, patient flow, patient care and procedures. This role involves preparing and cleaning examination rooms, maintaining efficient patient flow, and ensuring proper preparation for patient visits. The MA will communicate and provide care consistent with the age, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of the patient. Responsibilities include answering the telephone, directing calls, taking messages, and accurately scheduling appointments. The MA will also be responsible for stocking examination rooms, assisting with supply orders, and reconciling encounters daily. Effective communication with supervisors and managers regarding problems or concerns is essential. The MA must understand and perform within their scope of practice, obtain vital signs accurately, and document them in the EHR. They will review and update medication lists, document allergies, and enter orders and appointments in the Practice Management System (PMS) and EHR. Providing referrals and/or consult orders, adhering to universal safety precautions, and maintaining proficiency with department-specific equipment are also key duties. The role includes facilitating transitions of care to UCC/Hospital and demonstrating flexibility with various work schedules. Additional duties may be assigned, and the MA should recognize and perform tasks not directly assigned. Scribing services are also part of the role.
