About The Position

Medical Assistant – Triage | Pain Management Primary Location: Briggs – San Antonio, TX Travel Required Between San Antonio Locations We are seeking a reliable, organized, and patient-focused Medical Assistant – Triage to join our clinical team at Epic Pain Management. This position will be primarily based at our Briggs location in San Antonio. However, the Medical Assistant must be flexible and willing to travel to and provide coverage at other Epic Pain Management locations throughout San Antonio based on staffing, provider schedules, patient volume, and operational needs. The Medical Assistant – Triage plays an important role in ensuring that new and established patients are properly triaged, patient charts are accurate and up to date, and providers have all necessary clinical information available before each patient visit. At Epic Pain Management, every patient interaction matters. Our Medical Assistants are an essential part of the clinical team and help ensure patients receive efficient, professional, and compassionate care. As a Medical Assistant – Triage, you will work closely with providers and clinical staff to maintain efficient patient flow, accurate medical records, and properly prepared charts.

Requirements

  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (required)
  • Previous Medical Assistant experience in a clinical setting
  • Ability and willingness to travel between Epic Pain Management locations throughout San Antonio (required)
  • Reliable transportation (required)
  • Proficient with electronic medical record (EMR) systems
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience reviewing patient medical histories, medications, and allergies
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple patients, charts, and priorities simultaneously
  • Strong communication and patient-service skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Dependable, adaptable, and comfortable working with different providers and clinic teams
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Pain management experience strongly preferred
  • Previous experience with patient triage and chart preparation preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Triage new and established patients in a timely, professional, and efficient manner
  • Room patients and prepare them for their scheduled provider visit
  • Obtain and accurately document vital signs, pain assessments, chief complaints, and other required clinical information
  • Review and update patient medical histories at each visit
  • Review and update medication lists and allergies
  • Identify and document changes in the patient's medical history or current condition
  • Ensure required clinical information is complete and accurate before the provider enters the room
  • Communicate relevant patient concerns or changes to the provider or appropriate clinical team member
  • Maintain efficient patient flow while providing a professional and compassionate patient experience
  • Prepare patient charts for upcoming clinic schedules
  • Maintain chart preparation approximately one week in advance whenever possible
  • Review prepared charts again the day before the scheduled clinic
  • Identify schedule changes, add-ons, cancellations, or missing clinical information
  • Confirm medical history, medications, allergies, and other required information are available and accurate
  • Identify incomplete documentation or missing records prior to the patient's appointment
  • Ensure providers have the necessary information available to efficiently evaluate and treat patients
  • Review upcoming patient schedules and create the UDS list for the following clinic day
  • Identify patients requiring urine drug screening according to established protocols and provider direction
  • Ensure UDS-related information is accurately documented
  • Communicate UDS requirements to the appropriate members of the clinical team
  • Support accurate and complete pain management documentation
  • Review upcoming patient schedules to determine whether imaging is required for the visit
  • Confirm necessary imaging and imaging reports are available prior to the patient's appointment
  • Ensure imaging required for provider review is accessible in the patient's chart
  • Identify missing imaging or records and communicate the need for follow-up before the scheduled visit
  • Assist with coordinating necessary medical records when appropriate
  • Accurately document patient information and clinical updates in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely patient documentation
  • Ensure patient charts reflect current medical history, medications, allergies, and other relevant clinical information
  • Review charts for completeness and accuracy
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements at all times
  • Support providers and clinical staff with daily patient flow
  • Prepare exam rooms and clinical areas as needed
  • Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked patient care areas
  • Assist with clinical duties within the Medical Assistant's training and scope of responsibility
  • Follow infection control, OSHA, HIPAA, and Epic Pain Management safety and clinical protocols
  • Communicate effectively with providers, management, and other members of the clinical team
  • Assist other clinical staff as needed to maintain efficient clinic operations
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on patient care and operational needs
