About The Position

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, provider and CNM, the Medical Assistant assists by performing routine patient care procedures, technical and supportive functions in the in home, ambulatory clinic setting as well as assisting with office-based administrative duties. Certain tasks may require the prior competency verification before performing. The ideal candidate is comfortable driving to patient residences, delivering high-quality clinical and customer service, and supporting office staff with scheduling, phone outreach, and patient coordination.

Requirements

  • Certified/Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) or equivalent experience (preferred or required based on employer).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (spoken and written).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a clinical setting, community health experience preferred.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work closely with a diverse community and team.
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively in the office.
  • Strong communication, organization, and customer-service skills.
  • Comfort using electronic health record (EHR) systems and scheduling software.
  • Ability to lift/move equipment or assist patients as needed (per facility guidelines).

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient-centered support in a non-traditional healthcare setting, ensuring accessibility and dignity in care delivery.
  • Travel to patient homes to assist with routine clinical tasks – member’s Annual Wellness Exam.
  • Collects and records patient data including height, weight, BMI, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, pulse oximeter, and peak flow measurement according to established policies and procedures.
  • Performs lab tests, including finger sticks, after appropriate training and verification of competency.
  • Administers immunizations and all medications per provider's order after a licensed health care professional verifies the correct medication and dosage (as applicable).
  • Performs venipuncture and PPD skin placement. Documents measurement of PPD skin test and reports information directly to the provider or to the Registered Nurse (as applicable).
  • Applies/removes bandages and dressings (as applicable).
  • Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control per policy and procedures.
  • Performs routine clerical functions as assigned; will be utilizing tablet or laptop.
  • Takes and routes phone calls timely and efficiently in office and in field.
  • Schedules routine and follow-up appointments and enter and follow up on referrals.
  • Accurately files all patients’ labs, X-ray, EKG results and other documents after the provider has seen and signed off the information (when applicable).
  • Keeps patient exam rooms and work areas clean and stocked (as applicable).
  • Follow policy and procedures for missed and cancelled appointments.
  • Monitor all referral by binder.
  • Document patient concerns, maintaining flexibility based on patient needs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of clinical encounters and services provided.
  • Ensure patient comfort, safety, and privacy while in the home.
  • Support providers with basic medical procedures.
  • Communicate clearly with patients and families in both English and Spanish.
  • Participates in assigned staff and other meetings, including quality improvement, case conferences and in-service meetings (as applicable).
  • Performs other duties and tasks as may be required or assigned.
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times.
  • Make phone calls to patients to confirm, schedule, and reschedule appointments.
  • Assist with coordinating provider schedules and updating patient records.
  • Perform general office duties such as answering calls, managing messages, and supporting front-desk workflow.
  • Translate information between staff and Spanish-speaking patients as needed.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned.
  • Participate in JWCH’s customer service training called AIDET on an annual basis.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You) to apply in patient encounters or team discussions.
  • Utilize the AIDET communication framework to communicate with patients and team members in a manner that reduces patient anxiety, increases patient compliance, and improves clinical outcomes.
