Requirements

  • Graduate of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited medical assisting program required within eighteen (18) months of hire (Medical Assistant Trainee pathway).
  • RQI Provider (BLS) certification required within 7 days of hire/transfer or before independent patient care.
  • Must successfully complete all onboarding education and competencies prior to performing task-specific patient care.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with ability to prioritize, adapt to changing workloads, and seek assistance appropriately.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and teamwork skills with ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and ability to learn electronic medical record and other systems.
  • Commitment to integrity, empathy, kindness, and high-quality patient-centered care.

Nice To Haves

  • Post high school education or vocational training in healthcare preferred; combinations of education and clinical experience may be considered.
  • Current Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential encouraged.
  • Medical office experience and medical terminology knowledge preferred.
  • Working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, basic laboratory values, and pharmacology preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical equipment, aseptic technique, infection control, patient rights, regulatory standards, and HIPAA requirements preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe pharmaceutical handling and completion of Logan Health medication administration training required as applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and prepare patients for exams, procedures, and provider visits.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, patient histories, medication information, and surgical symptom updates accurately in the medical record.
  • Assist providers with in-office procedures, treatments, and patient care activities.
  • Perform specimen collection, labeling, and documentation according to established protocols.
  • Coordinate referrals, diagnostic testing, imaging, procedures, and follow-up appointments.
  • Manage patient calls, portal messages, medication refill requests, and provider communications.
  • Support patient education related to neurosurgical conditions, medications, procedures, and treatment plans.
  • Maintain exam rooms, equipment, and supplies in accordance with infection control and safety standards.
  • Participate in department meetings, process improvement initiatives, and quality-focused activities.
  • With approved training and competencies, may perform medical scribe duties and accurately document provider notes within the electronic medical record.
