About The Position

The IU Health Medical Assistant Trainee Program is a cohort-based training program designed to prepare new Medical Assistants (MAs) for employment at IU Health. The program runs from January 11th to March 13th and aims to instill IU Health's values and expectations in trainees. IU Health supports team members by covering program tuition and providing dedicated time for training. Upon successful completion of the program and a national certification exam, trainees will be eligible for an MAII position within IU Health. A commitment to work as a full-time MA at IU Health for one year following the program is required, with a $5,000 penalty if this commitment is not fulfilled.

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED is required.
Requires 0-3 years of relevant experience.
Be at least 18 years of age by the start of the program.
Requires basic proficiency in MS Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Teams).
Meet the technical and physical standards.
Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association is required.
No time off requests granted during January 11th - March 19th (unless an emergency).
Candidate able and willing to work M-F 40 hours a week. Schedules will vary based on clinical sites and could be between 7:30 am - 5:00 pm.
Candidate able to commute to Indianapolis once a week for 7 weeks (8:00 am - 4:30 pm).
Candidate to be able and willing to work around biohazardous specimens and body fluids.
Candidate to be able and willing to perform CPR.
Able to meet technical and technology (computer, internet, camera, microphone) requirements for the program. Tablets will not work and are not acceptable.
If selected, you will be required to work as a full-time MA at IUH for one year following the program. If this is not fulfilled, you will be required to pay $5,000.

Candidate to be able to dedicate 10-20 additional hours per week for assignments, modules, reading, and studying.

Responsibilities

Complete the Medical Assistant Education Program, including 140 hours minimum of in-person & online classes, online modules, weekly quizzes or assessments, in-person simulation instruction, and check-offs.
Complete 160 hours minimum of supervised, clinical practicum.
Gain experience and knowledge in Anatomy and Physiology, Infection Control, Vital signs, Medication Administration, Billing and Coding, and Clinical procedures.
Pass a national certification exam to become a Certified Medical Assistant.
Work as a full-time MA at IU Health for one year following the program.
Be able and willing to work M-F 40 hours a week, with schedules varying based on clinical sites between 7:30 am - 5:00 pm.
Commute to Indianapolis once a week for 7 weeks (8:00 am - 4:30 pm).
Be able and willing to work around biohazardous specimens and body fluids.
Dedicate 10-20 additional hours per week for assignments, modules, reading, and studying.
