About The Position

Established in 1970, Orthopedic Associates of Hartford, P.C. is one of the area's largest and most respected orthopedic specialty groups. In support of high-quality patient care, we are currently seeking an experienced Medical Assistant Secretary to support various physician practices within our organization. Fast-paced and challenging, you will interact with our physicians, patients, and other departments to provide the highest level of care for our patients. Our ideal candidate will be energetic and enthusiastic, able to demonstrate a mature, dependable, and responsible approach while effectively assisting the physician’s practice in all interactions, be a highly committed team player, a proactive self-starter, reliable, and able to be flexible in a changing environment.

Requirements

  • Two – Three years’ experience in a medical/surgical office
  • Dependable, Responsible, Flexible

  • Surgical scheduling
  • Organized and able to multitask
  • Computer skills, Epic experience plus
  • Support a heavy call volume of incoming and outgoing calls
  • Support a heavy patient schedule
  • Strong Communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Assistant Certification Preferred
  • Two to three years of experience in a healthcare setting preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of medical and insurance terminology
  • Ability to demonstrate a mature, dependable, and responsible approach while effectively assisting Physician’s practice when interacting with patients, physicians, co-workers, and additional outside sources
  • Exceptional organizational, verbal, and written communication skills; strong problem-solving skills
  • Highly committed team player and proactive self-starter; reliable and able to be flexible in a changing environment
  • Strong computer skills, experience with EPIC preferred
  • Detail oriented with the ability to multi-task
  • Ability to utilize a variety of office equipment

Responsibilities

  • Scheduling appointments
  • Placing orders and scheduling ancillary tests/radiology, surgeries
  • Triaging calls
  • Pre-certifying procedures
  • Answering a heavy volume of telephone calls
  • Obtaining patient demographic information, or verifying information already on file, including health history and insurance information, and scheduling patient office visits and surgeries
  • Supports physician’s administrative and clinical practice operations
  • Responsible for scheduling ancillary tests and surgeries in accordance with physician’s orders and insurance requirements, ensuring all necessary paperwork and required tests needed prior to surgery are completed accurately
  • Triages calls, working closely with physician and/or assigned staff member in responding to all calls in a timely fashion
  • Develop great patient relationships and high-quality patient experience
  • Support all relevant EHR work queue patient care support responsibilities
  • Support insurance prior authorization proactively to support high quality patient care
  • Prepare schedule for on-call and Trauma time
  • Performs other related duties as requested by the supervisor/manager
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel) and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with patients, staff, and doctors
  • Strong multitasking and time-management skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Travel between our various sites upon request
