About The Position

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Medical Assistant/Scribe to join our team! This role is responsible for assisting physicians with patient care, both clinically and clerically, and maintaining a positive image of the clinic. Key duties include collecting and processing routine tests, returning results to the doctor, providing excellent customer service, and working efficiently under pressure. The position involves performing CLIA-waived moderate testing, managing patient referrals, handling charts, filing, instrument maintenance, stocking rooms, reconciling labs, rooming patients, taking vitals and medical history, answering phones, managing faxes, processing referrals, making collection calls, obtaining prior authorizations, checking patients in and out, collecting payments, scanning, discharging patients, posting charges, some coding/billing, managing medical records, performing blood draws, and administering injections. As a Scribe, the primary function is to accurately create and maintain patient medical records, assist the physician in other ways, and ensure service excellence. This includes entering provider orders for medications and labs accurately and efficiently, communicating with providers and staff regarding these orders, and providing quality service to internal and external customers. The role also involves performing general duties in the clinic with adequate supervision, adhering to regulatory requirements, and hospital policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Current BLS.
  • Experience with computers and office equipment.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Must understand medical terminology.
  • General Math skills.
  • Must be organized, a multi-tasker, and a critical thinker.
  • Must be able to understand input from the supervisor and/or manager concerning errors and instructions.
  • Better than average attention span to listen, read and remember verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
  • Good communication skills, and ability to work well with others.
  • Team player and flexible.
  • Can work well under pressure and meet multiple and competing deadlines.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Can recognize and understand the complexity and reflex-testing of laboratory complexity.
  • Basic computer knowledge along with basic knowledge of CPSI and patient scheduling.
  • Must be able to handle/defuse conflict issues with patients, their families and staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer at least 6 months experience working directly with Physicians in a clinical setting.
  • Bilingual is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physician with patient care, clerical and clinical duties.
  • Collect, process routine testing, and return results to the doctor.
  • Provide good customer service on the phone, to patients, doctors, and other medical staff.
  • Perform CLIA waived moderate testing.
  • Manage patient referrals, pull charts, file, clean/wrap instruments, stock rooms, reconcile labs, and room patients taking vitals and history.
  • Answer telephones, review, and assign faxes.
  • Handle healthy connection referrals/eligibility, collection calls, and prior authorizations.
  • Check patients in/out at the front desk, collecting pertinent information.
  • Collect and process payments, scan and discharge patients.
  • Post charges, perform some coding/billing, and manage medical records.
  • Perform blood draws and give injections.
  • Assist a physician in creating and maintaining a patient’s medical record.
  • Enter Provider medication and lab orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Communicate with Providers and other medical staff about patient’s lab and medication orders.
  • Perform general duties in all areas within the clinic with adequate supervision.
