Join our Rheumatology team in Newton, where your clinical skills, attention to detail, and patient-centered approach will help ensure a smooth, supportive experience for patients managing complex rheumatologic and autoimmune conditions. Our Rheumatology team includes five providers delivering comprehensive inpatient, outpatient, and emergency consultative care for patients with rheumatic and autoimmune conditions. The practice provides advanced evaluation and treatment for a wide range of musculoskeletal and connective tissue disorders affecting the joints, muscles, bones, and soft tissues, including arthritis and other complex autoimmune diseases.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Direct Medical Assistant experience or medical field experience of 1–2 years required.
  • Ability to take vital signs, obtain manual blood pressure, and collect blood samples or other specimens.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organization, accuracy, and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a busy clinical environment while maintaining a high level of patient service.
  • Commitment to complying with all privacy, confidentiality, and patient safety standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in Medical Assisting preferred.
  • Basic Life Support certification preferred.
  • National Certified Medical Assistant credential preferred.
  • Experience using electronic health record systems, including Epic, strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients, obtain and document vital signs, weight, height, and other relevant clinical information in the medical record.
  • Prepare examination rooms and equipment for providers and help maintain efficient patient flow throughout the day.
  • Partner with providers during patient visits, including assisting with joint injections and other rheumatology-related clinical workflows as appropriate.
  • Support prescription refill workflows, patient phone calls, messages, and follow-up needs through the electronic health record system.
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log specimens, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competency has been demonstrated.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and provider instructions to patients while reinforcing patient education materials.
  • Administer immunizations when applicable and when certification or experience requirements are met under provider supervision.
  • Maintain inventory of immunizations and supplies, including monitoring expiration dates.
  • Perform occasional EKGs and other clinical tasks as needed by the practice.
  • Support departmental quality initiatives, including two patient identifiers, hand hygiene, and other patient safety standards.
  • Assist with general office support as needed, including phone coverage, forms, documentation, and coordination with other departments.
  • Serve as a positive, professional liaison for patients, families, providers, and care team members.
