About The Position

At University Cancer & Blood Center (UCBC), the team prides itself on listening, providing hope, guidance, and comfort, and striving to make a positive impact on the lives of patients and their families. This includes all staff, from front-desk to physicians. The Radiation Oncology Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in this mission. Responsibilities include monitoring schedules and organizing patient flow for physician office visits or in-office procedures. The Medical Assistant accompanies patients to exam rooms, performs triage, collects patient history, and provides physical assessments as delegated by physicians. This role also involves scheduling and obtaining results for testing, procedures, and other services, interpreting and accurately communicating these results to physicians and patients as necessary. The Medical Assistant manages patient charts to ensure clinical information is complete, including timely scanning of forms into charts, and prepares charts in the EMR prior to physician visits. They are also responsible for the upkeep of exam rooms regarding sterilization, infection control, supplies, and equipment. Patient communication, including answering emails, voicemails, and returning calls, is a key part of the role, as is completing requests for information from other UCBC/UHA staff. Maintaining the strictest confidentiality with regards to patient information and promoting HIPAA compliance are essential duties, along with performing any other assigned tasks or special projects.

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant Certification
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors schedule and organizes patient flow for physician office visits or in-office procedures

  • Manages patient charts to ensure clinical information is complete, including scanning forms into charts in a timely manner
  • Prepares charts in the EMR prior to the physician visit according to practice process
  • Performs upkeep for exam rooms with regards to sterilization and infection control, supplies, and equipment
  • Answers emails and voicemails and returns patient calls in a timely and efficient manner
  • Completes requests for information from other UCBC/UHA staff and ensures they're handled promptly and effectively
  • Abides by and promotes HIPAA compliance; maintains strictest confidentiality with regards to patient information
  • Performs any other duties and or special projects as assigned
