About The Position

This role provides routine clinical and administrative support to providers and other health care team members in an outpatient clinic setting. The Medical Assistant works under the clinical supervision of the provider for patient care activities, and under the general direction of the designated manager/supervisor for non-clinical responsibilities. For Medical Assistant 3, duties include performing advanced administrative and clinical tasks to keep offices running smoothly, capturing accurate and detailed documentation of patient encounters in a timely manner, accompanying the physician and observing patient encounters, documenting events and decision-making for medical charting, and completing clerical activities to assist with processing physician's orders for tests and medications. MA's are not permitted to make independent decisions or translations beyond what is directed by the provider.

Requirements

  • Requires high school diploma or GED.
  • Basic Life Support Certification
  • Medical assistant externship experience required (MA1).
  • Possess at least one year of full-time experience as a Credentialed Medical Assistant (MA2).
  • One year experience as a Medical Assistant required (MA3).
  • Requires Medical Assistant certification by either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Association of Health Professionals (NRCMA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA) (MA2, MA3).
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program (MA3).

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accreditation Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is strongly preferred but not required (MA1, MA2).
  • Medical assistance experience preferred (MA1).

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians and other health practitioners running smoothly.
  • Capture accurate and detailed documentation (handwritten, electronic, or otherwise) of the encounter in a timely manner.
  • Accompany the physician and directly observe patient encounters while accurately documenting the events and decision-making in a manner that results in appropriate medical charting.
  • Complete the clerical activities necessary to assist with processing of physician’s orders for tests and medications.
