About The Position

UCFS strives to use person-centered care to improve the health and well-being of everyone in our community. We are currently seeking a Medical Assistant - Psychiatry to support the psychiatric provider (and primary care providers as needed) with daily preparation of patients for examinations, perform assigned procedures, collect, and document patient care information (vital signs, height, weight, etc.). The Medical Assistant - Psychiatry will maintain their clinical areas based on infection control standards and patient flow expectations. As assigned, this role will process information needed for administrative functions. It is expected that the right candidate will sustain a line of communication with the psychiatric provider, primary care providers, and patients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Certified Medical Assistant
  • Current CPR certification
  • Current MA or CNA certificate
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills to handle varying situations and place patients at ease
  • Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to travel to other UCFS sites in Colchester, Griswold, Norwich, New London, and Plainfield as needed for coverage
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems (EPIC preferred) with working knowledge of MS Office
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of experience in clinical psychiatric services highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepares the patient for examination: escorts patient to the room; obtains and records assessment information; performs screening tests/procedures; prepares specimens for transport. Adheres to universal precautions and departmental policies and procedures
  • Monitors patient medication intake.
  • Ensures clean and stocked exam rooms; maintains inventory of supplies. Performs quality control/improvement activities as assigned; operates and maintains equipment per manufacture instructions.
  • Ensures that forms/flowsheets are recorded as may be needed by providers.
  • Demonstrates customer service in responding to patient needs. Contacts patients as instructed regarding missed appointments and test results.
  • Coordinates appointments with the provider, referrals to outside specialties (neurologist, sleep study, etc.), and medication referrals as ordered by the provider.
  • Coverage of the Primary Care team as Psychiatric needs are met
