About The Position

The Medical Assistant Program Instructor is responsible for the daily management of the program, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing the department budget, monitoring program outcomes, developing and updating curriculum, teaching courses, and advising students. This role involves overseeing student paperwork, supervising department functions, assisting students with registration and academic advice, selecting and monitoring externship sites, and coordinating externship experiences. The instructor will also develop departmental budgets, maintain program curriculum and equipment currency, implement best teaching practices, facilitate community contacts for externships, engage in retention activities, and prepare students for certification examinations. Additionally, the instructor will collaborate with student services for job placement and manage special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) in good standing.
  • Minimum of an Associates’ Degree related to the subject matter and skills being taught.
  • A minimum of four years experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Initial licensure as a Medical Assistant Instructor (Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable alternative qualifications).

Responsibilities

  • Daily management of the program, including maintaining regulatory compliance standards.
  • Managing the department budget.
  • Monitoring and maintaining program outcomes (retention, certification, placement).
  • Developing and updating program curriculum.
  • Teaching courses within the program.
  • Advising program students regarding academic progress.
  • Confirming completion of student paperwork, contracts, CORIs, and medical information.
  • Supervising department functions, including interviewing students for admission, developing program standards, and creating program course guides and marketing materials.
  • Assisting students with registration, academic advice, and core course-specific transcript evaluation.
  • Selecting, approving, and monitoring externship/practicum sites and evaluating final programs.
  • Providing orientation for on-site Supervisors.
  • Coordinating and providing oversight of the externship/practicum experience.
  • Coordinating the assignment of students to externship/practicum sites.
  • Providing on-site assessment of the student experience and the quality of learning opportunities at least once during each term students are assigned to an Externship/Practicum site.
  • Developing departmental budgets.
  • Monitoring and maintaining an acceptable level of student outcomes, including retention, certification, and placement.
  • Planning, developing, implementing, and maintaining program curriculum.
  • Working with the Director of Technical Institute to resolve student concerns.
  • Evaluating and providing student feedback on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintaining currency of program curriculum and equipment.
  • Attending regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Developing and implementing best teaching practices.
  • Arranging for and attending advisory board meetings twice a year.
  • Facilitating community contact for externship programs and showcasing opportunities for students.
  • Overseeing the program, including externship and didactic training.
  • Actively engaging in retention activities, including documented communication with both students and administration regarding attendance and progress.
  • Providing annual documentation of continuing professional growth.
  • Meeting with and counseling students in regards to Satisfactory Academic Progress.
  • Preparing students for certification examinations.
  • Working in conjunction with the Student Services Advisor to place students into employment as Medical Assistants or the equivalent at the conclusion of the program.
  • Attending school in-service workshops and school-wide faculty meetings.
  • Managing special projects as formally assigned by the Director of the Technical Institute (including, but not limited to, the organization and posting of student work for display, assistance with orientation programs and open houses, assistance with accreditation preparation).
  • Performing all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
