This position involves providing direct patient care procedures and related tasks within a primary care clinic. The Medical Assistant will assist with patient check-ins, obtain histories, take vital signs, prepare charts and electronic health records, and support medical exams. Responsibilities also include contributing to unit functioning by answering phones, delivering messages, and escorting patients and families. The role operates under the medical direction of a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) and administrative direction of the Nurse Executive or designee, providing basic care to patients with various conditions, illnesses, and injuries. The Medical Assistant will monitor patients, report changes in condition, and maintain accurate patient information and clinical records, adhering to confidentiality policies and HIPAA. They will also assist with appointment arrangements, discharges, transfers, and patient flow, as well as clerical tasks like transcribing orders and preparing necessary documentation. Patient education on medical issues and discharge instructions is a key component, along with practicing infection control and safety principles. Additional duties include specimen collection and handling, performing CLIA-waived testing, administering injections, setting up for oxygen administration, maintaining supplies and equipment, and assisting with the orientation of new personnel. Participation in relevant committees, quality management activities, and mandatory training is also expected.
