About The Position

The Department of Ophthalmology is seeking applications for a PRN Medical Assistant (open rank Healthcare Tech 1-II) to take photos at several clinic locations in Denver and Aurora. This position will work on patient recruitment and consents for research imaging. Operates specialized ophthalmic equipment. This role will be responsible for providing the research consent form, educating regarding the study, providing answers to patient’s questions, and capturing the retina’s picture. The Ophthalmology Department is providing imaging services OCT and Non-mydriatic fundus photography services. The individual in this position will perform a broad spectrum of duties related to the effective and efficient clinical assistance of patients for outpatient visits and procedures. This includes maintaining precise interactions with nurses, physicians, and any other departments or functions involved in the delivery of patient care services.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) within 30 days of hire or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant certification.
  • Completion of the Ophthalmic Assistant Home Study Course within 1 year of hire (tracked by unit) or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant Certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) healthcare provider.
  • One (1) year of Health Care experience (for Intermediate level).
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude with clients, employees, and management.
  • Ability to work quickly – individually and as part of a team.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, documents, and regulations.
  • Must be detail-orientated and maintain excellent organizational skills.
  • Must be tech savvy (ability to understand, apply, and benefit from technology).
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels, to include physicians, leadership, and staff.
  • Ability to work within large, complex healthcare systems.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic imaging and testing including OCT, fundus photography, visual testing.
  • Administers intravenous agents in preparation for fluorescein angiography.
  • Provides documentation, educates patients, creates appointments and enters charges.
  • Performs clinical and administrative duties in support of assigned area.
  • Assist with and oversee the day-to-day operations of clinical trials.
  • Assist in obtaining medical history and current medication treatment information.
  • Confirm eligibility for subject to be enrolled into a research study, review research study protocol, inclusion/exclusion criteria for clinical trails.
  • Perform informed consent process or ensures that the informed consent process has occurred, is properly documented, and that informed consent form documents are filed as required
  • Assist with protocol, Informed Consent, and related documents to be amended.
  • Assist with data entries, modify RedCap tools as needed.
  • Assist and maintain communication for updates with the research teams.
