About The Position

Works with psychiatrists, physicians, nurses and other members of the team, to optimize the health and wellness of adult clients with severe mental illnesses. This role involves direct patient care, including taking vital signs, assisting with medical procedures, performing phlebotomy, and maintaining medical records. The position also includes clerical duties and participation in team meetings and professional development.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year’s experience working in a medical office/clinic
  • CPR/First Aid training
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a private vehicle for day-to-day job performance
  • Knowledge of medical practices and familiarity with medical equipment, instruments, and common safety hazards and precautions
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively as part of a professional team delivering healthcare in a multi-cultural community setting
  • Familiar with mental health issues/mental illness
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills and professionalism toward internal and external customers
  • Ability to maintain cultural awareness and sensitivity to differing backgrounds
  • Capable with office equipment and basic computer skills including email
  • Flexibility in days/hours available for scheduled work.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with individual consumers to measure vital signs, height and weight.
  • Escort individuals to appropriate rooms.
  • Follow MiSide medical protocols and provide input for development of new protocols.
  • Support the nursing staff in rendering first aid as requested.
  • Conduct phone follow-up with consumers and/or health care providers when requested by the members of the health care team.
  • Provide health education and information regarding health and wellness programs.
  • Assist with inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Inform management when items need to be purchased.
  • Perform clerical duties such as appointment scheduling, document scanning, medical records duties etc., as assigned.
  • Clean nursing/clinic area and ensure that all medical equipment is accounted for at the end of each day.
  • May conduct on-site lab tests including blood glucose monitoring.
  • May perform phlebotomy (blood draw) or other lab specimens according to physician’s orders.
  • Draw blood from patients using venipuncture or fingerstick techniques.
  • Verify patient identity and explain procedures to reduce patient anxiety.
  • Label blood samples correctly and maintain accurate patient records.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and transportation of specimens.
  • Maintain sterile and safe working conditions following infection control protocols.
  • Dispose of needles and medical waste according to safety regulations.
  • Preparing patients before and after blood collection.
  • Maintain and organize phlebotomy equipment and supplies.
  • Follow all laboratory policies, safety standards, and healthcare regulations.
  • Participates in team huddles and case conferences as indicated.
  • Maintain professional growth and development by attending job related training.
  • Participate in administrative staff meetings, agency committees, and other projects as assigned.
  • Adhere to MiSide policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to MiSide code of ethics, and comply with local, state and federal laws.
