About The Position

Progressive Community Health Centers is hiring a Pediatric Medical Assistant in Milwaukee, WI. This is a full-time position with hours from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Progressive Community Health Centers, founded in 1999, is an independent non-profit organization with four clinic locations in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. With over 100 employees, the agency's mission is to improve the health and quality of life of the community by providing culturally competent services that address identified needs. They provide high-quality, comprehensive care to approximately 16,000 patients annually, with a majority being low-income. No one is turned away based on insurance status or ability to pay. Requirements

  • Knowledge of injection levels and procedures, for both children and adults.
  • Knowledge of universal precautions and blood borne pathogens.
  • Ability to document clearly, patient vital signs and chief complaint, as well as pay close attention to charting detail.
  • Ability to relate well to people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to manage patient flow in a fast-paced clinic environment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours in order to meet patient care needs/demands.
  • High school graduate or equivalent, with completion of a Medical Assistant program, from an accredited school or training program.
  • Mandatory vaccination for all employees, employed providers and volunteers. Proof of vaccination must be submitted prior to orientation.

Nice To Haves

  • EPIC experience is preferred.
  • Experience in community health, public health, or in a community hospital is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting and supporting staff, patients, and the community.
  • Informing scheduled patients of any delays due to physician's lateness, emergencies, schedule backup, etc.
  • Anticipating the need for assessment and monitoring of patients prior to and during examination, treatment, emergency, acute illness, or procedure.
  • Providing a caring environment and dealing empathetically with patients' needs and questions.
  • Greeting, assessing, and interviewing patients.
  • Obtaining past medical, surgical history, family history, social history, and complete set of vital signs.
  • Reviewing current medications, allergy history, and brief interrogation of chief complaint.
  • Acting as a liaison between Provider and patient.
  • Preparing and assisting patients for examination/treatment by medical staff.
  • Staffing within the Primary Care department.
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Obtaining vital signs.
  • Performing Audiogram.
  • Performing Phlebotomy – butterfly, venous heel stick.
  • Performing Specimen collection.
  • Giving injections/immunizations.
  • Performing EKG.
  • Performing CLIA waived point of care testing.
  • Performing Nebulizer treatments.
  • Administering medications.
