The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting physician, PA or NP with clerical duties, patient flow, patient care and procedures. This role involves preparing and cleaning examination rooms, maintaining efficient patient flow, and ensuring proper preparation for patient visits. The MA will communicate and provide care consistent with the patient's age, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs. Key responsibilities include answering the telephone, directing calls, taking messages, and accurately scheduling appointments. The MA will also be responsible for stocking examination rooms, assisting with supply orders, and reconciling encounters daily. Effective communication with supervisors and managers regarding any issues is essential. The MA must understand and perform within their scope of practice, obtain vital signs, document in the EHR, and manage medication lists and allergies. They will enter orders, schedule appointments in the Practice Management System (PMS) and EHR, and provide referrals. Adherence to universal safety precautions for medication administration and waste disposal is required. The MA must maintain proficiency with department-specific equipment and report malfunctions promptly. They will also facilitate transitions of care to UCC/Hospital and demonstrate flexibility with work schedules. Additional duties may be assigned, and the MA is expected to recognize and perform necessary tasks even if not directly assigned. Scribing services are also part of the role.
