The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting physician, PA or NP with clerical duties, patient flow, patient care and procedures. This role involves preparing examination rooms, maintaining efficient patient flow, ensuring proper preparation for patient visits, and communicating and providing care consistent with the age, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of the patient. The MA will also handle telephone communication, schedule appointments, stock examination rooms, and assist in ordering and maintaining supplies. Responsibilities include reconciling encounters, communicating issues to supervisors, understanding and performing within the scope of practice, obtaining vital signs, reviewing and updating medication lists and allergies in the EHR, entering orders, scheduling appointments, providing referrals, adhering to safety precautions, and maintaining proficiency with department-specific equipment. The role also facilitates transitions of care to UCC/Hospital and requires flexibility with work schedules. Additionally, the MA may provide scribing services.
