About The Position

Sun River Health is seeking a Full Time Medical/Patient Representative to support our Beacon, NY location. This role involves assisting patients and professional staff within an assigned unit or authorized community site, in support of medical care as directed by nursing and medical staff. The position requires performing job duties in compliance with systems and job-specific standards, and any additional assigned duties. The Medical Assistant/Patient Representative is responsible for providing patient-centered care, facilitating patient access to services in a pleasant, knowledgeable, and efficient manner, and communicating with a diverse population using well-developed interpersonal skills. This staff member will manage all aspects of the registration and appointment process for patients and plays an integral role in the medical care team as the access point for patients to receive care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism when interacting with patients, colleagues, and providers.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant training program preferred.
  • Previous Medical Assistant or related clinical experience preferred.
  • National Medical Assistant certification preferred but not required, unless otherwise specified for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, including obtaining and documenting vital signs and relevant patient information.
  • Assist providers and other clinical staff during patient visits, examinations, and procedures as appropriate.
  • Support patient flow by preparing examination rooms and ensuring rooms are properly stocked and ready for use.
  • Accurately document patient information in the electronic health record in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assist with scheduling, referrals, follow-up activities, and other patient care coordination needs as assigned.
  • Provide patients with instructions and information consistent with direction from the clinical team.
  • Maintain appropriate infection prevention, safety, and confidentiality standards.
  • Ensure medical supplies and clinical areas are appropriately maintained and organized.
  • Collaborate with providers, nurses, and other members of the care team to support an efficient and positive patient experience.
  • Facilitate patient care within different departments of SRH and outside agencies.
  • Verify all insurance and set fees based on the sliding scale fee.
  • Consult with medical staff to link patients to services through the provision of ancillaries such as translation, transportation assistance, and application assistance.
  • Responsible for telephone and mail contact with patients.
  • Assist with daily reception activities and ensuring that all processes needed for patient services are initiated.
  • Provide basic instruction/health education to clarify provider instructions, procedures, and referral needs.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of the Medical Assistant/ Patient Representative role as assigned.
