About The Position
UW Medical Center-Northwest - Otolaryngology has an outstanding opportunity for a Medical Assistant - Certified (MA-C). The Otolaryngology Clinic is a specialty clinic that combines experts from a variety of fields for a comprehensive approach to healthcare. We offer advanced medical and surgical treatment for a wide range of ear, nose and throat, as well as head and neck, sleep and allergy conditions for both adults and children. Our audiological staff offers diagnostic hearing tests, hearing aids, custom hearing protection and balance testing. We are committed to safe, high- quality care, provided in a warm, welcoming environment, and believe in forming close partnerships with our patients to ensure the best outcomes.
Requirements
- Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board OR equivalent
- Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve this designation within 6-months of hire. Failure to achieve and/or maintain this designation will result in termination of employment
- Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider CPR card
- Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
Responsibilities
- Room patients, take vital signs, and reconcile records
- Perform injections
- Prepare and clean exam rooms
- Submit medication prior authorizations
- Recognize symptoms of common medical illnesses and accurately report to provider
- Act as a liaison between patient, patient’s family and providers
- Assist provider with procedures and medical exams
- Perform point of care testing and report abnormal laboratory values
- Assist in transporting patients as required
