About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting physician, PA or NP with clerical duties, patient flow, patient care and procedures. The MA prepares the examination room, escorts patients into the room, and cleans the examination room when the exam is complete. They maintain efficient patient flow, ensure proper preparation for patient visits, and prepare pertinent information needed for patient visits. The MA communicates and provides care consistent with the age, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of the patient. They answer the telephone appropriately, direct calls, and/or take accurate messages. Appointments are scheduled accurately and appropriately according to departmental guidelines. The MA consistently and accurately stocks examination rooms with all necessary supplies and assists in ordering and maintaining all supplies as assigned. Encounters are reconciled daily and accurately, according to policy guidelines. The MA effectively communicates problems, concerns, or issues to the Supervisor and/or Manager appropriately and promptly. They understand and perform within their scope of practice. The MA obtains vital signs (BP, temp, pulse, height & weight) accurately and completely as required and documents appropriately in EHR. They review and update medication lists and accurately document known allergies in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). The MA demonstrates an understanding of prescription control and prescription refill procedures. They accurately document allergies in EHR and appropriately enter orders and schedule appointments in the Practice Management System (PMS) and EHR. Referrals and/or consult orders are provided appropriately and in a timely manner in the PMS and EHR. The MA appropriately adheres to universal safety precautions when administering medications and disposal of medical waste. They maintain proficiency with department-specific equipment, troubleshoot and report malfunctions promptly. The MA facilitates the transition of care to UCC/Hospital and demonstrates flexibility with various work schedules. All other duties as assigned, including recognizing and performing duties that need to be performed although not directly assigned. The MA also provides scribing services.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Graduated from an accredited medical assistant or phlebotomy program, required.
  • 0-1 year related work experience, required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or within 30 days of hire, required.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, required.
  • Ability to organize and perform multiple tasks in a timely manner, required.
  • Basic proficiency in computer use, required.
  • Ability to commute to satellite offices as needed, required.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-4 years related work experience, preferred.
