About The Position

Mass General Brigham’s nephrology program provides comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and research for kidney conditions, including chronic kidney disease, glomerulonephritis, polycystic kidney disease, kidney stones, and transplant care. As a Medical Assistant, you will support physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other members of the care team by delivering attentive clinical and administrative support that keeps the practice running smoothly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • One to two years of direct Medical Assistant experience or related medical field experience required.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organization, and customer-service skills.
  • Confidence managing competing priorities in a busy clinical environment, including a high volume of phone calls.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and commitment to patient privacy and confidentiality requirements.
  • Ability to obtain vital signs and manual blood pressure readings and collect blood samples and other specimens.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, protocols, electronic health record systems, and medical office software.
  • Sound judgment, problem-solving skills, and effective time management.

Nice To Haves

  • associate degree in Medical Assisting preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
  • Certified Medical Assistant national certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients, escort them to examination rooms, prepare equipment, gather medical information, take vital signs, weight, and height, and document accurately in the medical record.
  • Help manage patient flow and respond to patient questions and concerns with empathy, professionalism, and a strong customer-service approach.
  • Manage a heavy, high-volume phone workload, including answering incoming calls, taking and routing messages, supporting appointment coordination, and communicating with patients and clinical teams.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and provider instructions, and organize educational materials to reinforce patient education.
  • Perform general office duties, complete insurance forms, and serve as a liaison with other departments while advocating for patients.
  • Collect, log, and prepare blood, tissue, and other laboratory specimens for testing; perform phlebotomy when competency has been demonstrated.
  • Maintain immunization inventory, monitor expiration dates, and administer immunizations when applicable and appropriately qualified.
  • Support departmental quality and safety initiatives, including use of two patient identifiers and proper hand hygiene.
  • Assist junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and contribute to onboarding and training.
