About The Position

The Medical Assistant Mentee position is designed for individuals to learn and develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to deliver an effective Medical Assistant (MA) Program. This role involves developing and delivering engaging lessons, assessing student performance, facilitating hands-on learning, staying current with medical assisting practices, and mentoring students. Additionally, the mentee will coordinate overall MA program activities, manage program budgets, supplies, and equipment, and collaborate with the CTE Director. Key responsibilities include maintaining agreements with local clinical sites, overseeing student scheduling and compliance records, managing the clinical lab functions (safety, equipment, inventory, orientation), evaluating student progress, and providing academic advisement. The role also involves student recruitment, community outreach, and planning activities with administrative offices and the advisory committee. As the Externship Coordinator, the mentee will oversee practicum experiences, develop relationships with clinical facilities, select and approve sites, coordinate student assignments, conduct supervisory visits, ensure compliance with extern policies, and evaluate student achievement in the practicum.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging and effective lessons in medical assisting, covering a wide range of topics such as anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and clinical procedures.
  • Assess student performance and provide constructive feedback to support their growth and development.
  • Facilitate hands-on learning opportunities and clinical experiences for students.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest medical assisting practices and technologies, and incorporate this knowledge into teaching.
  • Advise and mentor students, providing support and guidance as they pursue their careers in medical assisting.
  • Collaborate with other faculty members to ensure a high-quality educational experience for all students.
  • Contribute to program development and curriculum design, and participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Coordinate the overall Medical Assistant (MA) program activities for NHS and PHS.
  • Exercise leadership in the area of program oversight and curriculum maintenance including overall program budget requests, supplies, equipment, and other classroom needs.
  • Communicate and work collaboratively with CTE Director.
  • Maintain meaningful agreements with local clinical sites; oversee scheduling and assignment of students at such clinical sites.
  • Ensure student compliance records for clinical sites (health & vaccine records, CPR, confidentiality, etc.).
  • Provide oversight, instruction, and management of the clinical lab functions to include: safety; equipment maintenance; upgrades and acquisition; supply inventory management; orientation for students, and guests.
  • Maintain lab calendar and lab usage data/reports; and maintain lab guidelines/policies/procedures.
  • Evaluate student performance; meet regularly and confer with students regarding their progress in the program.
  • Provide academic advisement to MA students.
  • Oversee and participate in local events related to student recruitment and any other activities related to the MA program and community outreach.
  • Plan and schedule activities with the appropriate administrative offices as well as the advisory committee.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
