About The Position

Provides patient care services in the back office medical setting, which will meet the specific needs of the patient. This role involves performing essential functions as defined by the appropriate Skills Competency Checklist, adhering to established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. The position requires implementing infection control policies, using personal protective equipment, observing and communicating changes in patient condition, assisting providers with exams and procedures, and participating in the completion of emergency equipment checklists. Responsibilities also include dispensing prescriptions and medications, following standing orders, administering medications with adherence to safety protocols, notifying providers of unusual patient occurrences, and promptly reporting safety concerns to the Clinic Manager. The role also involves following laboratory and clinical accreditation policies, treating patients and co-workers consistent with company values, and performing other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent
  • Candidates in Arizona must meet specific criteria regarding approved Medical Assistant Training Programs, certification by NCCA or ANSI accredited organizations, or prior relevant employment/training before February 2, 2000, or completion of a US Armed Forces medical services training program.
  • Candidates in states other than Arizona must meet specific criteria regarding approved Medical Assistant Training Programs, certification by NCCA or ANSI accredited organizations, or prior relevant employment/training, or completion of a US Armed Forces medical services training program.
  • Current healthcare professional level CPR certification issued by American Heart Association, American Red Cross, American Safety Health Institute or National Safety Council.

Responsibilities

  • Performs the essential functions as defined as by the appropriate Skills Competency Checklist.
  • Compliance with established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Implements infection control policies throughout the course of patient care and other job duties.
  • Complies with personal protective equipment policy necessary for protection from exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infectious disease and other hazardous substances.
  • Observes and communicates changes in the patient's condition to the provider on duty.
  • Assists provider with exams, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care under direct supervision.
  • Participates in the completion of the emergency equipment daily checklist, as well as any assigned duties and tasks necessary to maintain compliance with Federal and State regulations.
  • Participates in education programs and attends meetings as required.
  • Dispenses prescriptions and medications per policy
  • Follows and complies with standing orders policy; recognizes when the provider on duty is necessary based on patient presentation and policy guidance
  • Administers medications per policy and adheres to all safety protocols and procedures for medication administration.
  • Notifies the provider on duty promptly of all unusual patient occurrences including medication events on an incident report.
  • Promptly notifies the Clinic Manager of patient or employee safety concerns.
  • Follows guidelines and requirements of laboratory and clinical accreditation policies.
  • Treats patients and co-workers consistent with the NextCare Mission Statement, Vision, Values and Performance Standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or described by Company policy.
  • Perform moderate-complexity clinical testing across authorized disciplines (e.g., Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis) in strict accordance with the laboratory's COLA-approved SOP manual.
  • Execute and document daily instrument calibrations, quality control (QC) tracking, and corrective actions for out-of-range values prior to reporting patient results.
  • Maintain orderly, verifiable, and audit-ready logs for all pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical activities to ensure seamless biennial COLA on-site surveys.
  • Participate in mandatory, documented competency assessments (semiannually in the first year of employment, and annually thereafter) covering all six CLIA-mandated elements.
  • Successfully test and document blind proficiency testing samples exactly like patient specimens, adhering to strict anti-commingling regulations.
  • Accession, process, centrifuge, and evaluate sample integrity, reporting data accurately into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Promptly recognize critical, life-threatening results and follow immediate notification protocols to the attending Texas healthcare provider.
