The Medical Assistant (MA) I in Orthopedics and Podiatry Clinic is responsible for adhering to the Medical Assistant scope of practice, following all policies and procedures, and maintaining training and competency based on area of specialty when providing patient care. This role performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings. The MA assists providers with procedures, performs lab-related duties including venipuncture and specimen collection, and conducts Point of Care testing. They also administer medications and vaccines safely, and may complete tasks such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals. The position requires cross-training for duties relevant to the specialty or clinic practice, effective communication, teamwork, and maintaining a clean, well-stocked work environment. The MA must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served, understanding principles of growth and development.
