About The Position

This part-time Medical Assistant position at Pleasant Hill Peds focuses on providing direct patient care under the supervision of a provider. The role involves performing basic medical assistant functions, managing electronic medical records, facilitating communication within the healthcare team, and ensuring patient and family understanding of treatment plans. The position also includes marginal functions such as cross-coverage in other clinic areas and participation in performance improvement projects.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification must be obtained within the first year of employment and maintained thereafter.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certification or obtained within three (3) months of hire.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within three (3) months of hire.

  • Clinic/physician office experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Recognize urgent/emergent patient needs and initiate appropriate emergency procedures.
  • Function within the guidelines of various payor regulations.
  • Manage the electronic medical record, including test results, filing, creation, and repair.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary communication and utilize the healthcare team for patient assessment.
  • Assess and address the learning needs of patients and their families.
  • Provide accurate and complete information to patients and families.
  • Evaluate patient and family understanding of treatment plans.
  • Assist with procedures, exams, and operation of diagnostic equipment (e.g., EKG, spirometry, tympanometry).
  • Maintain appropriate aseptic technique for procedures and medication administration.
  • Accurately document all patient interactions in the electronic medical record.
  • Report results and pertinent information to patients and healthcare team members.
  • Perform basic medical assistant functions (vitals, rooming, assist with procedures, immunizations, medication injections) under provider supervision.
  • Maintain professional appearance of patient exam and procedure rooms.
  • Maintain supplies in assigned area.
  • Provide cross-coverage in other clinic areas as needed.
  • Follow equipment maintenance protocols, identify problems, and coordinate repairs.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement projects.
