About The Position

This full-time day shift position at the Adel Clinic involves a Medical Assistant demonstrating the ability to recognize urgent/emergent patient needs and initiate appropriate emergency procedures. The role requires functioning within various payor regulations, managing the electronic medical record (EMR) including test results, retrieval, filing, creation, and repair, and facilitating interdisciplinary communication. The Medical Assistant will utilize the healthcare team in patient assessment, analyze patient data, assess patient learning needs, and provide accurate information to patients and families. Responsibilities include evaluating patient understanding of treatment plans, assisting with procedures and diagnostic equipment (e.g., EKG, spirometry, tympanometry), maintaining aseptic technique, accurately documenting patient interactions in the EMR, and reporting results to patients and team members. The role operates within the limitations of the provider's license or certification and performs basic medical assistant functions such as taking vitals, rooming patients, assisting with procedures, administering immunizations and medication injections under provider supervision. The Medical Assistant is also responsible for maintaining the professional appearance of exam and procedure rooms and ensuring adequate supplies. Marginal functions include cross-coverage in other clinic areas as needed, following equipment maintenance protocols, identifying problems, and coordinating repairs. Participation in Performance Improvement projects is also expected.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification must be obtained within the first year of employment and maintained thereafter.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certification or obtained within three (3) months of hire.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within three (3) months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain professional appearance of patient exam and procedure rooms.
  • Maintain supplies in assigned area.
  • Cross-cover in other clinic areas as team needs.
  • Follow equipment maintenance protocol, identify problems, and coordinate appropriate repairs.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement projects.
