About The Position

Mercy Health is seeking a Medical Assistant (MA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join their team at Urbana Family Medicine & Pediatrics. Requirements

  • High School Degree or GED
  • Active Medical Assisting certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, NRCMA, NCMA, NCCT) required within 12 months of start date, or Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) if MA certification is unobtainable (not accepted in South Carolina)
  • BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)
  • Active state Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensure or LPN applicant
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
  • One year of clinical patient care experience (preferred, not required)
  • One year of medical assistant healthcare experience (preferred, not required)
  • Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office (preferred, not required)
  • Possesses problem-solving skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to all ages of the patients
  • Ability to learn and use a computer-based patient appointment scheduling and registration system
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a team
  • Strong interpersonal communication and organization skills

Nice To Haves

  • One year of medical assistant healthcare experience
  • Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office
  • One year of clinical patient care experience

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and updating health records
  • Measuring vital signs such as pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height
  • Preparing treatment rooms for upcoming examinations
  • Greeting patients and the community in a respectful manner
  • Preparing and reviewing patient charts for upcoming visits by verifying that all diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date
  • Performing departmental-related clerical duties such as checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones
  • Troubleshooting and resolving problems promptly
  • Collaborating with physicians and other health care team members in meeting patient/family needs
  • Implementing the plan of care by providing direct basic nursing care in accordance with the LPN scope of practice
  • Appropriately labeling and packaging specimens, as trained
  • Assisting in providing indirect care through various clerical or administrative duties as assigned by the registered nurse
  • Acting as a chaperone for health care providers during patient examination as requested
  • Assisting provider with procedures, treatments, and interventions
