The Medical Assistant Lead will adhere to the Medical Assistant scope of practice, follow all policies and procedures, and maintain training and competency based on area of specialty when providing patient care. This role assists the department leader to support daily workflow and operations for maximum efficiency and productivity, including developing and modifying staffing schedules, medication/supply ordering, and audits. The Lead will also assist with training and onboarding, acting as a resource for the team, and serving as a role champion or on a committee to support quality, safety, teammate engagement, patient experience, and general process improvement initiatives. Responsibilities include performing rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings. The Lead will also assist providers with or perform procedures, handle lab-related duties, perform Point of Care testing (POCT), administer medications and vaccines safely, and complete other assigned duties such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, appointment scheduling, and referrals. Effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation are essential. The Lead will maintain a clean work environment, ensure instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately, and ensure equipment and supplies are in working order and areas are appropriately stocked. The role requires the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, understanding the principles of growth and development over the life span and assessing data reflective of patient status to identify age-specific needs.
