About The Position

The Lead Medical Assistant oversees daily clinical operations by coordinating patient flow, assigning work, monitoring staffing needs, and ensuring exam rooms, equipment, and supplies are prepared for patient care. Responsibilities include rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vital signs and medical histories, assisting providers with examinations and procedures, administering medications and injections within scope of practice, collecting laboratory specimens, maintaining accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR), and ensuring compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, infection control, and all applicable regulatory standards. Leadership & Supervision: Serve as the first point of contact for medical assistant team members regarding clinical workflows, procedures, and patient care. Coordinate daily staffing assignments to ensure proper coverage. Train new medical assistants and provide ongoing coaching and mentorship. Clinical Duties: Perform routine clinical tasks including taking patient vitals, documenting medical histories, preparing patients for exams, and assisting with procedures. Administer medications and immunizations as directed by a provider. Perform basic laboratory tests and ensure proper specimen handling. Maintain exam rooms and clinical equipment in a clean, safe, and functional state. Administrative Support: Assist with scheduling appointments, processing referrals, and managing patient flow. Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 3 years as a Medical Assistant
  • At least 1 year in a leadership or senior role
  • Strong clinical skills and knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
  • Excellent leadership and team coordination skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) preferred.
  • Experience with EHR systems (e.g., Athena or ECW ) preferred.
