About The Position

The Laboratory Medical Assistant supports laboratory operations by performing administrative and clinical tasks. This role ensures proper specimen collection, preparation, and processing while assisting with day-to-day operations, maintaining equipment, and delivering excellent patient care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years previous experience in a medical or laboratory setting is a plus.
  • Medical Assistant and Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification is required.
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and medical terminology.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for patient interaction.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and laboratory information systems a plus
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow strict protocols.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of confidentiality standards (HIPAA).
  • Covid-19 vaccination required as a condition of employment as required by State law. Medical and religious exemptions may apply.

Responsibilities

  • Collect blood, urine, and other samples from patients following proper protocols.
  • Label and document specimens accurately to ensure identification and traceability.
  • Prepare specimens for analysis, including centrifugation and aliquoting.
  • Provide clear instructions to patients regarding sample collection procedures.
  • Monitor patient conditions during sample collection and report any adverse reactions.
  • Ensure patient privacy and confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Maintain patient records in laboratory information systems (LIS).
  • Schedule and confirm patient appointments.
  • Coordinate with healthcare providers to share laboratory results promptly.
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Keep track of supplies and place orders to maintain adequate inventory.
  • Ensure the lab complies with safety and quality standards, such as OSHA regulations.
  • Participate in quality control checks and proficiency testing.
  • Follow lab safety guidelines and dispose of biohazardous waste appropriately.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with CAP, CLIA, or other accrediting agencies.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
