About The Position

Emory Healthcare (EHC) is seeking a capable Medical Assistant for its internal travel team. This PRN position requires 48 hours per month with 8-hour day shifts and involves travel between various Emory Healthcare locations. The role focuses on performing assigned patient care and observation duties under the direction of a licensed provider, RN, or LPN. Responsibilities include taking vital signs, administering a limited profile of medications, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing equipment, and maintaining examination rooms in an outpatient setting. The Medical Assistant will also promote a supportive and healing environment, assist in emergencies, and may handle administrative duties such as patient check-in/out, reinforcing patient education, and reception. Maintaining patient charts, ensuring proper documentation and confidentiality, and upholding a clean and healthy environment in compliance with safety standards are also key aspects of the role. Participation in research projects impacting patient care areas may also occur.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • One (1) years’ relevant work experience required.
  • Successful completion of a medical assistant training program from an accredited school, military hospital corps, medic or equivalent training, or successful completion of practical, diploma, associate or baccalaureate nursing program.
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification in one of the following: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT) Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), National Health career Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA).
  • Current AHA BLS certification is required for hire and must be renewed throughout employment.
  • Must successfully complete all medical assistant orientation and training requirements including certification and annual skills competency.

Responsibilities

  • Performs assigned patient care and observation duties under the direction of a licensed provider, RN or LPN.
  • Takes vital signs.
  • Administers a limited profile of medications per The Emory Clinic approved policy.
  • Performs simple diagnostic tests.
  • Collects specimens.
  • Draws blood.
  • Sterilizes and cleans equipment.
  • Maintains examination rooms in an outpatient care setting.
  • Promotes a supportive and healing environment to enhance customer and staff satisfaction.
  • Assists in emergency situations as directed by a licensed provider, RN or LPN.
  • Performs administrative duties including patient check in/out, responding to patient requests, reinforcing patient and family education and visitor/telephone reception.
  • Maintains patients' charts and records data, ensuring proper identification, documentation, routing and confidentiality.
  • Maintains a clean and healthy environment in compliance with Universal Precaution guidelines and safety standards.
  • Orders, verifies and stores unit supplies.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
  • May participate in research projects impacting patient care areas.
