About The Position

Nebraska Methodist Health System is seeking a part-time Medical Assistant for their Internal Medicine clinic at Methodist Physicians Clinic - HealthWest in Omaha, NE. Requirements

  • Completion of an approved Medical Assistant Program required.
  • Program must include an externship/preceptorship in a clinical setting OR must have 6 months of current experience working in the capacity of a medical assistant.
  • OR Currently enrolled in a nursing program with half of nursing courses completed required. Transcripts must be provided indicating classes have been passed.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures required.
  • Skill to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks.
  • Skill to proficiently type information into the computer.
  • Ability to provide caring patient care services.
  • Ability to critically listen to questions and convey information effectively.
  • Ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve problems.
  • Ability to problem solve and be flexible.
  • Ability to learn and proficiently navigate through computer programs.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions/directions.
  • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) understanding.

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months previous medical assistant experience preferred.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • Medication Aide Registry (MAR or MAR.40) required within 2 months of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Documents all lab, procedures, and appointments on tracking forms and follows up on missed appointments and procedures.
  • Assists Health Coaches by working patient lists and scheduling appointments as directed.
  • Provides patient and family education and recommends appropriate community resources as needed.
  • Performs telephone triage to determine patient needs, recording and reporting patient condition to the provider, and advising patients based on provider instructions.
  • Maintains clean and organized work areas and equipment.
  • Handles prescription renewals/inquiries by discussing questions with the provider and relaying information to the pharmacy.
  • Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the patient.
  • Prepares exam rooms and equipment for patient examinations.
  • Prepares patients for provider exams by reviewing medical records, weighing patients, checking vital signs, performing medication reconciliation, and obtaining relevant patient information.
  • Assists providers by retrieving tests and medical records and obtaining lab work as directed.
  • Dispenses medications to patients at the direction of a provider.
  • Assists and/or performs phlebotomy with proper labeling and handling of specimens, accurately completing requisitions, and collecting specimens.
  • Ensures accuracy of order entry and completes appropriate documentation.
  • Orders and schedules tests as directed by providers.
  • Answers and returns phone calls and messages according to protocol.
  • Provides test results according to protocol.
  • Accurately completes pharmacy requests.
