About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) III functions as an AltaMed ambassador by welcoming and attending to the needs of all patients and creating a positive patient experience by managing expectations while demonstrating compassion and respect. The MA III assists in the provision of direct patient care by performing routine patient care procedures and technical/clerical support services in the clinical setting. The MA performs duties by building relationships with patients, listening to them, and gaining their trust. The MA demonstrates compassion and respect and is proactive in managing patients’ expectations. In addition, the MA is responsible for an Electronic Health Record (EHR) super-user and performs more administrative responsibilities that include providing feedback on Back Office processes to the Clinic Management, and serves as a role model for “Care in Action”. The MA assists in achieving department goals and objectives by providing support and guidance to the MA team as a mentor and trainer. If working at the Patient Service Center, the MA provides other duties over the telephone. If working with one of the Patient Registry teams, the MA performs other duties related to ensuring all diagnostic test results are appropriately managed for Registry patients.

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant certificate
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a back office Medical Assistant
  • A minimum requirement of a valid BLS certification or higher, following the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Phlebotomy certification
  • Nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification
  • Bilingual English/Spanish/Mandarin/Cantonese, depending on location

  • Provides other duties over the telephone if working at the Patient Service Center.
