The Medical Assistant II (MA II) performs all MA I duties and provides advanced clinical support, mentoring, workflow coordination, quality improvement, and regulatory support. The MA II maintains competency in all MA I responsibilities, including preparing exam rooms, supporting efficient patient flow, rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, documenting histories and chief complaints, and preparing patients for visits. They perform EKGs, audiometry, immunizations, blood draws, specimen collection, and basic in-clinic testing. They assist RNs, NPs, PAs, and MDs with examinations, follow-up, referrals, and patient education. They maintain accurate medical records, supplies, equipment, and required clinical logs, and keep clinical areas clean and organized. The MA II also serves as a clinical resource and mentor for Medical Assistants, supporting orientation, precepting, coaching, and competency validation. They support advanced clinical workflows, including difficult blood draws and specimen collection, and assist with clinic operations, patient flow, supply inventory, and equipment coordination. They support clinical workflow and standard operating procedure improvements, and participate in chart audits, quality improvement, and regulatory readiness. They maintain required quality-control, temperature, and regulatory logs, and may serve as shift lead and assist with interviews and onboarding. They collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team and perform clinical tasks within the Medical Assistant scope of practice. They demonstrate professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and excellent customer service. The MA II works independently with minimal direction, anticipates provider and clinical team needs, and demonstrates strong clinical, documentation, and communication skills. They manage time and priorities effectively, identify barriers, propose solutions, and seek guidance when needed, while promoting teamwork, professionalism, and excellent patient service.
