This position prepares and maintains exam rooms, prepares charts, obtains reports and records; assists with patient flow and ensures the overall smooth running of the clinical office. The Medical Assistant II interacts directly with patients in a clinic setting and completes clinical tasks, which may include obtaining vital signs, conducting EKGs, completing phlebotomy, and verifying medications. They prepare for office hours by obtaining charts, scheduling tests, and preparing exam rooms. They assist with examinations, procedures, and lab tests. This role may also assist with the renewal and authorization of non-narcotic medications per standing orders and department guidelines, and may administer medications under the order of physicians or nurse practitioners, including vaccines and injections. The Medical Assistant II directs patient flow, assists with special procedures/treatments, and completes requisitions. They route phone messages, patient questions, and telephone communications to appropriate personnel. They also assist with care coordination by calling patients with test results, scheduling appointments, assisting with return calls, scheduling surgeries, diagnostic procedures, and admissions, and monitoring new and return patient contacts. This role completes necessary paperwork and documentation in a timely manner and answers basic questions from patients/families regarding treatments, diagnosis, and procedures. They monitor supply inventory, ensuring adequate supplies and equipment are available and compliant with regulations, and clean and stock exam rooms and sterilize instruments. This position maintains required HIPAA compliance, skills/competencies, and participates in in-services, staff programs, continuing education, and cross-training programs. They comply with OSHA, state, and federal regulatory standards and participate in quality improvement activities. The role is located in a normal office environment with exposure to blood-borne pathogens, requiring protective devices. Physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping, and occasional lifting of 25 lbs. or less. Office and clinical/diagnostic equipment are used.
