About The Position

The Mass General Brigham Medical Group is seeking a full-time, 40-hour Medical Assistant II to join their Urgent Care team in Greenfield, MA. This role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. The Urgent Care Center provides timely medical care for patients 18 months and older who require medical attention but do not have an emergency. The role emphasizes compassion and emotional support for patients who are not feeling their best. The Medical Assistant II will assist junior Medical Assistants, prepare examination rooms, interview patients, record medical information, explain treatment procedures, perform general office duties, collect specimens, and maintain inventory of immunizations. They will also be responsible for improving departmental quality initiatives. While employees are generally kept in their assigned locations, there may be a requirement to float to other locations for training or staffing needs.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Direct MA experience or applicable medical field work 1-2 years required
Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] preferred
Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] preferred

Nice To Haves

Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred

Responsibilities

Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record.
Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
