University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking an 80% Medical Assistant II to work at the Northgate Family Medicine Clinic. Under direct supervision of a licensed independent practitioner, registered nurse, nurse manager/assistant nurse manager, or other licensed designee, this role functions as a member of the patient care team. The Medical Assistant II performs technical, patient care, and related clerical functions in the clinic setting by coordinating all elements of the patient visit. Staff will support the Family Medicine patient population, facilitating the smooth flow of patients through the clinic by interacting with patients, families, and staff. The role involves assisting with physical examinations, taking patient history, managing medication records and immunizations, and maintaining medical records. Additionally, the Medical Assistant II administers routine medications, performs basic laboratory tests, electrocardiograms, and x-ray work as needed, identifies vaccination needs, and handles clerical tasks such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, and assisting with insurance prior authorizations.
