About The Position

Under direct supervision of a licensed independent practitioner, registered nurse, nurse manager/assistant nurse manager, or other licensed designee, this role functions as a member of the patient care team. The Medical Assistant II performs technical, patient care, and related clerical functions in a clinic setting by coordinating all elements of the patient visit. This position will support patients in the Digestive Health Clinic.

Requirements

  • Certification OR registration as a Medical Assistant OR completion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant Program, OR
  • Completion of a health care profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program including but not limited to pathophysiology, medical terminology, basic pharmacology and medication administration including dose calculation and psychology (include educational transcripts during application process)
  • Resume that clearly addresses how they meet the listed required and desired qualifications.
  • Copy of educational transcripts if not certified/registered as a Medical Assistant or if have not completed a Medical Assistant Program.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitating the smooth flow of patients through the clinic through interaction with patients, families, and staff.
  • Assisting in clinic with physical examination of patient and related treatments, including but not limited to patient history, medication records, allergies, and immunizations.
  • Managing internal and external medical records to ensure that accurate and complete data is available for patient appointments.
  • Administering routine oral, rectal, or injectable medications not requiring a high level of skill or nursing judgment, which can only be administered by certified medical assistants or medical assistants who have completed a formal accredited training program.
  • Performing routine laboratory tests such as urinalysis and blood work.
  • Performing patient care related to vital signs, reviewing medications, allergies, lab draws, setting up and assisting with minor procedures, in-clinic treatments, point of care testing, removing staples and/or sutures, assisting with dressing changes, administering immunizations as ordered, and other duties as assigned.
  • Taking and uploading photos of wounds and Plastic Surgery Reconstruction.
  • Setting up sterile field and assisting with Plastics and General Surgery minor procedures.
  • Stocking rooms with appropriate medical supplies and linens.
  • Providing psychological support to the patient and family based on assessed needs.
  • Attending and participating in staff meetings.
  • Identifying vaccination needs for specific patient populations.
  • Performing related clerical tasks including answering phones, and providing information to other departments.
  • Treating matters with confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
  • Demonstrating consideration and respect for patients, families, and co-workers always.
  • Completing on-line and in-service education programs annually and as required/offered.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
