About The Position

Franciscan Health is seeking a Medical Assistant II for their Ambulatory Services at the LaPorte HealtheAccess Clinic. This role is critical for supporting a variety of clinical duties for multiple ambulatory clinics. The Medical Assistant assists providers and staff in coordinating patient care, scheduling appointments, executing physician orders for lab testing, entering information in the electronic medical record system, and functions as a liaison between patients, coworkers, and providers. The role involves providing a personal approach to direct patient care in a variety of outpatient settings, which may include rooming patients, taking vitals, obtaining a comprehensive medical history, documenting care of patients via electronic medical record, administering vaccines, injections, and medications, phlebotomy, point of care testing, and medication reconciliation under the supervision of an RN/Provider. The Medical Assistant will also gather requirements from internal and external customers and provide information via phone, electronic messaging, and in person. Additionally, the role includes initiating and following through on prior authorizations, referrals, and processing sample medications, prescriptions, and refills as directed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Program Medical Assisting (or 5 years of medical assistant experience in lieu of program)
  • Basic Life Support Program (BLS) - American Heart Association - within 90 days of hire
  • One of the following certifications within 6 months of hire: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Allied Health or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Registry of Medical Assistants or Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Performance Specialists (NPS)

Responsibilities
