The Medical Assistant assists their assigned Providers with patient examinations, pre-visit questions, treatments and procedures as directed by the Provider, while maintaining an efficient flow of patients through the clinic. This role involves greeting and welcoming patients, escorting them to examination rooms, gathering pre-examination information, and accurately recording vital signs and chief complaints in the electronic medical record (EMR). The Medical Assistant also administers medications and injections under provider direction, prepares and restocks examination rooms, and assists with physical exams and procedures. They are responsible for maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and Variety Care policies, following safety regulations including Universal Precautions and proper disposal of contaminated items. Additionally, this role involves coordinating referrals, communicating with external entities to obtain results, assisting with medical emergencies, and supporting the plan of care and patient education. The position may require occasional travel to other Variety Care health centers for back-up coverage, with mileage reimbursement. The Medical Assistant is expected to embody Variety Care's commitment to being a Patient Centered Medical Home and contribute to the goals of the "Triple Aim" of healthcare reform. They must demonstrate strong personal character, including integrity, adaptability, sound judgment, and effective communication. The role also requires the ability to function as a member of an emergency code team and familiarity with emergency equipment.
