About The Position

The Medical Assistant II serves as a role model, providing support, training, and sharing knowledge with other Medical Assistants, MA student externs, and Practice Assistants in the practice. This role makes recommendations on how resources can be used differently and more effectively. The Medical Assistant II identifies and resolves OSHA compliance issues, audits and maintains point of care testing, and tracks test results. They participate in practice improvement initiatives and may participate in small projects under the direction of the Manager or Designee. The role involves greeting patients, serving as a communication resource, asking appropriate questions, solving problems, and taking complete and accurate information from patients in person and by phone, prioritizing and communicating the information to providers appropriately. The Medical Assistant II responds quickly and courteously to phone calls and requests, seeks assistance from supervisors and others appropriately, and escorts patients to exam rooms. They ensure the availability of x-rays, lab slips, medical records, and other pertinent information. Key duties include obtaining vitals, weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature; performing EKGs, injections, and/or phlebotomy; and assisting providers. The role also involves performing departmental screening, lab tests, and specimen collection, implementing quality control standards, assisting with procuring medical records, ensuring patient records and relevant documents have appropriate patient identification, adding new medications to patient records in the EMR system, and assembling records according to BIDHC/APG policy and handling requests for patient information according to established guidelines.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Certificate 1 Medical Assistant Certificate required.
  • 1-3 years related work experience required.
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

  • 1-3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a primary care setting.
